WordPress is awesome. I am not exactly fond of upgrading the software I run for various websites, and I was skeptical that the upgrade I just ran would disrupt my configuration, my theme, or something else. I’m happy to say that nothing of the sort happened.
Why was I so worried? As I say, I don’t tend to frequently update my software (gasp!) because it usually requires downloading a zipped file, FTPing it up to the server, unzipping it, patching things that went wrong, and generally worrying about the whole process. Normally that wouldn’t be a big problem, but with my low-bandwidth, low-speed (but not low-cost) internet, the process can end up taking forever. But it doesn’t take long to do a WordPress Update thanks to their automatic updating.
I wish MyBB would implement a similar feature. It really is a pain to download the files and re-upload them. “So why are you a webmaster?” you might ask. Well, I love designing websites, I love making them work, I enjoy running a forum, and I enjoy posting on here, but doing updates is just a pain. It can be done – WordPress has proved that – so in my opinion, MyBB should get on board and join them.
Well this more of a ramble than anything informative, but I was just pleasantly surprised by the ease of updating, and I thought I might as well mention it. That post I mentioned earlier about exciting news will be forthcoming.
